    Greetings,

Firstly, I´d like to thank everyone on this forum for all the info and experience shared on the ambilight project. It has been very very useful in this harduous DIY project that has taken me the last 3 months (with a few on and offs) and has blown me way over budget.

I am currently running an APA102 led strip 62ledsx35leds (with 5v feed in each strip at the begging)
Powered by a 5V 12amp PSU that feeds only the led strip
    Then a RASPI 3 w/ videograbber and Clearvision splitter/switch

I have re-done this setup 3 time in the last 3 months.
First one worked , with ocasional bottom led freeze but it was a very messy job behind the TV.
The 2nd ended up like the first but without working.
Finally, this time, i was able to do things closer to what I imagined although very far. I think i ended up with something neat and tidy that is one piece attached to tv rather than stuck on it.

With 2 light switches in the circuit. ( I need the splitter during the day but not the lights)

    My issue is:

When I power the system I mostly get what you can see in the image: "hyperion reaction) up to a certain led , after that just a few random leds light.
Rarely but everynow and then when I power it on I get the rainbow effect to complete the strip and get the whole strip to react to hyperion for a few minutes then half the strip freezes. and sometime after that other random bits freeze.

Any idea what this could be?

I thought it might be in that led where it freezes but other leds light up after and sometimes it does in fact work.

Could it be my GROUNDING that is badly done?

Thank you for your help in advance I would really like to fix this.
Have been at this for months although loving it I am really tired and out of ideas and just want to end this project once and for.
This time I am really so close but feel far ahead.

    Regards

it looks the GND pin is not correct in your pi I think. Put it in pin 6 or 9

Look at the internet for which is pin 6 or 9

It is at the begin of the display monitor input.

I did change it to six.
With the results I mentioned above
Now I rebooted again and the whole thing worked for seconds and then half froze

Thank you all the same for your help
I currently have one ground connected from the PSU to the beginning of the led strip and a ground from RASPI pin 9 to end of the strip

    The freezing point ? Yes
But if it were broken it would never light up right? I occasionally get it to work right but then it freezes

ok maybe the IC inside the LED is broken...could you replace the led? i know...not a nice spot to work but nothing to do :p

Which would be the best way ? Overlapping?

for testing, it would be the best, if you cut the stripe befor the broken led, and solder 3 wires to the next led after the broken one... get it?

Assuming that works it would light up the rest of the strip but not the next strip right? Because Hyperion has a different number of Leds. And that would mean I could insert a new led right?
Not being the issue it would either do the same or something different

no should work normal then...cause you have only an led les, so the "last" led is not any more in the stripe and it can not light up

Is there any chance this could be a powering / wiring / grounding issue ?
